Smallholder Farmer
Who is a smallholder?
- Independent Rural farmer with farmland/plantation size ranging from 5ha to 50ha
- They rely on low-quality planting materials result in low yields
- They have a lack of knowledge about good agricultural practises.
- They lack formal procedures to prove land tenure rights.
- There is an absence of quality formal education and basic literacy skills.
- They are low-income earners with no access to finance.
- They live in areas where land is always available and in excess.
What can we do for Smallholders?
Carbon Done Right seeks to create value for low-income farmers and communities by integrating them into our projects that deliver income, education, and tools for improved performance.
How can we help?
- We provide a marketplace for smallholders if they plant trees or engage in forest conservation programmes.
- Our projects and initiatives provide much-needed rural economic development opportunities that combine a ‘top-down’ extension of technical information and knowledge transfer using remote sensing technologies that promote transparency and inclusive land investment, at the same time protecting their land rights, livelihoods, and food security.
- We offer technical support to smallholder farmers and communities that plant or conserve forests to deliver GHG emission removal.
- Reforestation and conservation will also help to restore biodiversity and other ecosystem services, while at the same time, selling carbon credits will safeguard livelihoods and improve the well-being of the smallholders.
- Smallholders are encouraged to plant for themselves with our technical support rather than adopting a human-assisted natural regeneration approach.
- The smallholders will become ‘carbon incubators’ and can generate income by selling carbon credits.
In addition, CDR has access to experts, both in-house and contracted, that can provide support throughout the project development phases. Finally, CDR can assist with the raising of appropriate funding to fully develop projects.
We are eager to discuss the details of our proposal and explore how we can best align our efforts to achieve our shared goals.
